Last Year the unemployment rate for the U.S was averaging around 4.4%. As of May 2018, the unemployment rate is at 3.8%. Although, that doesn’t seem like a major change it still shows progress. Unemployment in the U.S is declining. However, millions of people are still without jobs.

A large number of individuals who are unemployed are those who have criminal background records. If you look at the statistics on our Juvenile detention page it states that 68% of the Juveniles that get released from detention centers are reinstated in 3 years. Also, 74% of the Adult prisoners are reinstated in 3 years.

Ask yourself this question, “Would I hire an ex prisoner”? If your answer was “No” or “It depends on the offence” you have joined the 22 states in the U.S who have not removed the conviction history questions on their job application. Only 28 states in the U.S have passed laws banning employers from placing the conviction history question on job applications. That’s 62% of the U.S population. If ex-prisoners, felons, criminals etc. are wanting a better life for themselves but still have to be denied success because of their past, how else are they supposed to respond? Other than “I might as well go back”.

This department focuses on hosting annual job fairs for individuals with criminal background records. We partner with employers who doesn’t have background checks and hire felons. Our job fairs consist of business attire giveaways, job interview lessons and education opportunities.
